Editorial Policies
The Editorial Policies of the Journal of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Science (JDPS) govern all aspects of the publication process. These policies address authorship, acknowledgements, manuscript submission, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, changes in authorship, research misconduct, and the correction or retraction of published articles. Adherence to these policies ensures transparency, integrity, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing.
Authorship
An author is an individual who has made a substantial intellectual contribution to the development of a manuscript and agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) recommends that authorship be based on the following four criteria:
-
Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data; and
-
Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content; and
-
Final approval of the version to be published; and
-
Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
When research is conducted by a large group or consortium, the list of authors should include those individuals whose contributions meet the criteria above, along with the group name where appropriate. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript prior to submission. A signed approval statement or cover letter confirming that all authors consent to the submission must accompany the manuscript.
Acknowledgments
Individuals who contributed to the manuscript but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged. Such acknowledgements may be listed individually or collectively under a single heading, with a brief description of their contributions. Organisations that provided financial support, materials, or other resources should also be acknowledged, in accordance with ICMJE recommendations.
Manuscript Submission
Authors are strongly advised to review the Author Guidelines carefully and prepare their manuscripts in accordance with the journal’s prescribed format and style. All listed authors must meet the authorship criteria, and their full names, institutional affiliations, email addresses, and phone numbers must be provided. One author should be designated as the corresponding author. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the journal’s online submision system.
Conflict of Interest
A conflict of interest exists when professional judgment regarding a primary interest (such as the validity or integrity of research) may be influenced by a secondary interest (such as financial gain or personal relationships). In line with ICMJE recommendations:
-
Authors must disclose all relationships or activities—financial, personal, academic, or intellectual—that could influence or be perceived to influence their work.
-
Reviewers must disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the editors and recuse themselves from reviewing manuscripts where bias may exist.
-
Editors must recuse themselves from editorial decisions if they have relationships or interests that could present a conflict.
-
Editorial staff must not use information obtained through manuscript handling for personal gain.
Changes in Authorship
The Journal of Drugs and Pharmaceutical Science discourages changes in authorship, particularly after a manuscript has been accepted for publication. However, when changes are necessary, they will be considered in accordance with Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. Requests for authorship changes must be submitted by the corresponding author using the Authorship Correction Form and approved by all authors. All correspondence related to authorship changes should be directed to the editorial office at jdps@integrityresjournals.org.
Confidentiality
Submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents and are considered the private intellectual property of the authors. Premature disclosure may cause harm to authors. JDPS will not disclose submitted manuscripts to anyone other than individuals directly involved in the editorial and publication process, including authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial staff. Confidentiality may be breached only in cases involving allegations of misconduct or fraud, in which case manuscripts may be shared with the journal’s ethics committee or relevant institutions for investigation and resolution.
Research Misconduct
Research misconduct includes the fabrication or falsification of data, plagiarism, or misappropriation of ideas, committed intentionally and supported by sufficient evidence. Misconduct may also include breaches of confidentiality, inappropriate authorship practices, and violations of publication ethics. JDPS considers any violation of editorial policies, journal guidelines, or recognized ethical standards as research misconduct. Authors are expected to comply with ethical, legal, and professional standards in conducting and reporting research. Allegations of misconduct will be investigated thoroughly, and appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Correction and Retraction of Articles
Errors in scholarly publishing may occur, and the manner in which they are addressed depends on their nature and severity. Corrections to published articles may be made with editorial approval. Minor corrections will be incorporated directly into the published article. For major corrections, the original article will remain unchanged, and a corrected version will be published and linked to the original, accompanied by an explanatory notice. Retractions will be issued, when necessary, in accordance with COPE retraction guidelines.
